In
1902, R. W. Allen built a corn meal mill in Ada, Oklahoma. Shawnee
Milling Company of Shawnee, Oklahoma purchased the corn meal mill from
Mr. Allen in 1907 and began a flour milling operation. In 1920, the
mill was sold and incorporated as Ada Milling Company. In 1954, Ada
Milling changed its name to Evergreen Mills, Inc., and discontinued
flour manufacturing to devote their efforts to the feed industry.Evergreen Mills purchased Schroeder Milling Company of El Reno, Oklahoma, in 1969 and converted the flour mill to a feed mill to better serve the feed needs of the western half of Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle. In l983 Evergreen Mills was acquired by Kent Feeds, Inc., located in Muscatine, Iowa, and has since become a division of Kent Feeds. A fire in 2000 destroyed the original Evergreen production facility in Ada, Oklahoma, and a feed manufacturing facility was purchased in Fort Worth, Texas, and began operation in 2001. Evergreen Mills’ feed manufacturing facilities in El Reno, Oklahoma, and Fort Worth, Texas, continue to provide quality feed products to consumers in the Southwest. As a subsidiary of Muscatine Foods Corporation, Kent Feeds and Evergreen Mills have joined with Blue Seal Feeds, Inc., located in Londonderry, New Hampshire, to form The Kent Group. This Group of feed companies is dedicated to providing superior nutrition for beef cattle, horses, dairy cattle, sheep, goats, llamas, pigs, deer, dogs, cats, rabbits, wild birds, caged birds, poultry, herbivore zoo animals, and fish. |
